Suzuki Early Childhood Education (SECE) classes are not your average Parent & Me classes. Infants and toddlers learn mastery of early musicianship through observation, modeling, and thoughtful repetition lead by a teacher trained in Suzuki methodology and early childhood education. Students who go through SECE are more prepared to start an instrument at a young age due to advanced development of fine motor skills, relative pitch, and pulse and rhythm. We also focus on the total development of every child–building character to learn patience, sharing, cooperation, and confidence. You can read more about SECE at the Suzuki Association’s website and at the founders’ website.
Check out this scientific journal entry Babies’ brains benefit from music lessons, even before they can walk and talk by researchers at McMaster University. They found:
After completing the first study of its kind, researchers have discovered that very early musical training benefits children even before they can walk or talk. They found that one-year-old babies who participate in interactive music classes with their parents smile more, communicate better and show earlier and more sophisticated brain responses to music. Parents are a child’s first and most important teacher, so in SECE classes we view a parent’s involvement to be as important as the teacher. The core principles of SECE are:
Every child can learn
Ability develops early
Environment nurtures growth
Children learn from one another
Success breeds success
Parental involvement is critical
Encouragement is essential
